The ACT Down Syndrome Association is proud to announce its 2017 workshop series for teachers and professionals who work with students with Down syndrome. The second workshop in the series is:

Teaching Mathematics To Primary School Students With Down Syndrome
Presented by: Mel Stratford & Sharon Melhuish

This workshop is based on the findings of a research program designed by Assoc Prof Barbara Clarke of Monash University, Melbourne and Dr Rhonda Faragher of the Australian Catholic University, Brisbane. The focus of the research was to develop further insight into how students with Down syndrome learn mathematics. Canberra teachers, Mel Stratford & Sharon Melhuish will present this workshop and share the results of this research and their experience of teaching mathematics to primary school students with Down syndrome.

Workshop content:

• What we know from research about how students with Down syndrome learn mathematics.
• Practical strategies to support inclusive teaching.
• A range of suitable resources and examples will be discussed.
• Networking opportunities with other teachers and professionals teaching children with Down syndrome.
