World Down Syndrome Day 2017

Today, March 21, is “World Down Syndrome Day, an international day that promotes a better understanding of Down syndrome. On this day we help the broader community to see the vital and active role that people with Down syndrome play in our communities. It also seeks to combat the misinformation about Down syndrome that is abundant in the community, and champions the rights of all people with Down syndrome to realise their fundamental human rights.

This year the theme for World Down Syndrome Day is “My Voice, My Community.”

CoorDown has produced a video for World Down Syndrome Day 2017. It addresses the serious issues around the use of the terminology “special needs” and highlights that the fundamental needs of people with Down syndrome are the same as those of everyone else: education, employment, access to health care, and the community.

We hope you enjoy the video!
